The coach of the Slovenian national football team, Srecko Katanec, presented last week in Ljubljana the list of players for the first qualifying match for Euro 2016 on the 8th September in Tallinn against Estonia.
Katanec called some players from NK Maribor, busy during last week in the Champions League, Damian Bohar and Mitja Viler. Maribor has reached the group stage and be drawn in the same group with Mourinho's Chelsea.
"Bohar has played great football’’ told Katanec during the presser ‘’and also hit a few goals. During this season, Viler plays actually a better football than last one. I watched all Maribor’s matches, Viler was a very important piece of the squad, he was especially good in attacking phase. I think we will be useful also in Estonia"
Bojan Jokic and Martin Milca do not belong to the list due to injuries.
"I did not exclude anyone and tried the best way to draw up a team for a specific cycle of games. The players called now, they are currently the best available. We’ll see what will happen in a month. I wish that those who come, they will come with such a desire to succeed.’’ Katanec compared them to kids stepping into school for the first time ‘’they must have the same enthusiasm as children going to first grade on the 1st of September’’
Team will gather today at 12:30 at Brdo near Kranj. The players will practice twice a day from Tuesday to Saturday. The match with Estonia will take place on Monday the 8th September at 21:45.
Slovenia will continue the qualifiers by hosting Switzerland in Maribor (9th of October), by travelling to Lithuania (12th of October) and by being expected at Wembley against England on the 15th of November.
