FC Santos Tartu have been lucky with getting to Europa League, however they might not be as lucky now when clashing with Tromso IL. Additionally, if you believe in this kind of stuff, they are the 13th Estonian club reaching European competitions. The previous 12 have been: Flora, Levadia, Nõmme Kalju, FC TVMK, Lantana, Norma, Tallinna Sadam, FC Nikol, Sillamäe Kalev, Narva Trans, Viljandi Tulevik and Tervis Pärnu.
Among the 12 clubs, only Flora, Levadia and FC Nikol have precedents with Norwegian clubs.
Flora have clashed with Lillestrom (1995-96 UEFA Cup, 1-4 on aggregate) Lyn Oslo (2006-07 UEFA Cup 1-1 on aggregate, Flora progressed on away goals) and Valerenga (2007-08 UEFA Cup, 0-2 on aggregate)
Levadia clashed with Bodo Glimt (2004-05 UEFA Cup). The clash was ended 3-3 on aggregate after 180’ with same away goals tally. The penalties were necessary to break the tie and Bodo won 8-7.
FC Nikol lost 8-1 on aggregate against Lillestrom (1993-94 Cup Winners Cup) and it was the only clash ever in the European cups for the defunct Tallinn’s club.
Estonian and Norwegian clubs have never drawn in Europe. Something might suggest the tradition will be kept.
