Lokomotiv Jõhvi vs. Sillamäe Kalev Match Preview

Chris JohnsComment

Sillamae travel to local rivals Johvi looking to find some consistency in their form. They appear to be getting left behind in the race for a European spot, and a trip to bottom side Johvi appears to have come at the right time.

Johvi are in awful form, winless all season, and lost a league record 10-1 at Infonet last weekend.

FOCUS ON LOKOMOTIV (10/10, 5pts)

Following a promising 3-3 at Tammeka, Johvi were brought crashing back down to earth by a 10-1 drubbing at the hands of Infonet. The result was a new Premium Liiga record, and dumped further misery on the league’s bottom side. Lokomotiv are winless all season, have just five points to their name, and are the joint lowest scorers (16 goals scored, the same number as Narva).

Alexey Tikhorimov has returned to Johvi as manager, and is likely to return to a more familiar formation. Johvi changed from 4-2-3-1 to 4-4-2 for the Infonet match, something which may have contributed to their significant downfall.

They are likely to revert back to something less open, with Aleksandr Nikulin leading the line. Maksim Bazjukin, Lasha Naveriani, Dmitri Jegorov and Konstantyne Alania, who has scored twice in two games, are likely to feature, as Lokomotiv try to maximise the squad they have available with some positional shuffling likely once more.

Jegor Rudomin and Aleksandr Zahharenkov are a booking away from suspension.

Key man: Konstantyne Alania

The Lokomotiv attacker has two in two games, including a lovely finish against Infonet, and they need him to keep this type of form up if they are to claw back some pride this season.

FOCUS ON SILLAMÄE (5/40, 16pts)

Sillamae have won two in two, although last weekend’s 1-0 win over Tammeka was less than convincing. Evgeni Kabaev’s penalty was the difference between the two sides, and they will be looking for a better performance here.

Their line-up has been fairly settled in recent weeks, with Kabaev leading the line up top, Nikolai Mashichev on the left, Kyrylo Silich in the centre, and Stanislav Murikhin on the right of the attacking midfield threesome.

Deniss Tjapkin should continue in the centre of midfield, with Daniil Ratnikov likely to return.

Murikhin, Ratnikov, Aleksandr Volodin, and Yaroslav Kvasov are all a booking away from suspension.

Key man: Evgeni Kabaev

The Sillamae frontman has three in three, and they will be looking to him to continue that form. Kabaev will see this as the perfect opportunity to extend his form, and he will be expected to finish off the many chances Sillamae are likely to get.

Lokomotiv's starting line-up for their 10-1 thrashing by Infonet, and Sillamae's winning XI in their 1-0 triumph over Tammeka.

Johvi were far too open in front of their own defence last weekend, and that is something they are likely to try and change this weekend. A return to 4-2-3-1 is possible, but Sillamae have the quality to overcome that.

Both sides should play a similar formation, so the focus will be on individual battles, which Sillamae are expected to win.

BETTING TIP (by Chris Johns)

Bottom of the table and winless all season renders Johvi's chances next to zero. This is reflected in the prices for both teams, but a price of 1.35 for over 2.5 goals is a decent one considering Johvi's defensive record, and especially after their 10-1 thrashing by Infonet recently.

Tip: Over 2.5 goals
Odds: 1.35
