Few days ago, the name of Estonian international Martin Vunk, was put close to the one of Persija Jakarta, one of the most successful clubs in Indonesia.
10 times Indonesian Champion and founded in 1928 with Dutch name Voetbalbond Indonesische Jacatra, it was one of the founding members of the Indonesian FA.
On Sunday the 21st of November, Martin Vunk pushed away any rumour about a possible move to Asia to local Estonian press by confirming that there was just a contact between the club and his agent.
The main issue, according to Vunk’s words, were the fact that Persija had not nominated a new coach yet and that a limit of foreigners (3) was going to be introduced starting from season 2015.
However, it seems the situation has changed.
A new coach was appointed last week: Rahmad Darmawan. Additionally, it was the same Darmawan to confirm Vunk is moving to Jakarta to the Indonesian media SportaNews on the 29th of November.
According to the Indonesian sport news website, Darmawan made explicitly the name of Martin Vunk and named Brazilian Fabio Beltrame as the player making space for Martin Vunk. According to another online media, Bolanews, Beltrame should join Arema Cronus (IDN).
Darmawan stressed how important is for European players to adapt to weather and food in Indonesia hinting at the fact that the sooner Vunk will reach Jakarta, the better.
Martin Vunk spent his last season at Nõmme Kalju: 27 games, 4 goals, 6 yellow cards and 1 red his tally in his only season at the Tallinn's club.
In year 2014 he has played 7 times for Estonian national team: 3 Euro 2016 qualifiers, 2 friendlies and 2 Baltic Tournament's caps. He was given a start 4 times.
Meanwhile his former club, Nõmme Kalju officially sacked the coach Igor Prins (our anticipation of the news 10 days ago here) and, according to Rumori's sources, Sergei Terehhov (Kalju's Sport Director - picture) should be appointed as head coach.
